The synthesis method of TBHQ mainly includes the following steps
(1)Take hydroquinone as raw material, add sulfuric acid and terbutyl alcohol, and carry out alkylation reaction under the action of catalyst.
(2) After decolourisation, neutralisation, crystallisation and other process steps, the TBHQ product is obtained.
3.Properties and Uses TBHQ is a low melting point, crystalline powder with good antioxidant properties and thermal stability. 4. Antioxidant mechanism
The antioxidant mechanism of TBHQ mainly includes the following aspects
(1) Scavenging free radicals: TBHQ can scavenge reactive oxygen radicals and prevent them from reacting with lipids on cell membranes, thus preventing damage to cell membranes; (2) Anti-aging: TBHQ can inhibit plasma peroxidation and reduce intracellular lipids.

Generally speaking, in oil and fat food, the amount of TBHQ added is between 0.02% and 0.05%; in confectionery food, the amount of TBHQ added is between 0.1% and 0.3%.
